Q: I just bought a Ruger .204 and can't find it in the database.
A: It will be in the next update, but you can add
it yourself. See
how.
Q: Got V3 but can't add cartridges.
A: There was a bug that is corrected in release 3.2.
If you purchased 3.1, download the new software and use your old serial number
for validation of the software. If you want to retain your old database,
copy ontgt.mdb to a temporary location, and after installing 3.2, move it back,
replacing that which was installed with 3.2.
Q: I just updated my XP with
ServicePack 2 and now On Target won't run.
A: There are several issues with SP-2 that cause this.
Version 3.1 has been released,
which resolves these problems. You can download the
full version (Trial for 30 days). See Home page.
Q: I just installed Windows XP
and now I can't print anything from On Target. What's wrong?
A: Windows XP always comes
with a print spool driver that was not typically installed in earlier versions
of Windows, so when you installed On Target, it put this driver in the folder
where On Target is installed. Users of Windows XP must delete this driver
so the system will use the new XP driver. Go to the folder where On Target
was installed (default is C:/Program Files/On Target) and delete Winspool.drv.
Q: What's the Serial Number it asks for when I try to
install On Target?
A: On the back of your CD envelope, there is a unique
Serial Number. Do not lose it!
Q: I get a message after installing On Target saying that
it can't find the database.
A:
Installations of Version 2.0 can experience this problem if a
printer is not defined. A printer does not have to be attached to the system, but
one must be defined. Use Add Printer in the Control Panel, Printers folder. If
you do not have a printer, Windows has the drivers for most of the Hewlett Packard laser
printers.
Q: While trying to upgrade to Version 2.0, it asks me to
insert Disk 3 from my original installation. I can't find Disk 3. What should
I do?
A: The Upgrade product requires that either On Target be
installed on the computer when installing the Upgrade, or that you have Diskette #3 from
your original installation. If you have removed On Target from your computer, and
don't have your original diskettes, our Order Entry staff can assist you...so long as you
previously Registered your purchase of On Target Version 1.
Q: I have On Target version 1.0 I bought about 5 years ago.
Can I upgrade it?
A: What you have is On Target!, a software system from JBM
Ballistics. When our intellectual property attorney did a trademark search, he did
not find this, since it was not registered. Thus, we have sort of the same name.
See the link on the
Other Sites page.
Q: I have a MARKSMAN Edition, but can't see both the
graphic and table at the same time.
A: Your monitor must be capable of 800 X 600 pixel resolution
with Small fonts selected (or higher resolution with Large fonts selected) and the window
must be maximized in order to see both at the same time.
Q: I want to keep my kids from deleting cartridges and
rifles I've added. How do use the Password Protection. I don't see any place
to enter it.
A: You have to enable password protection first by editing
Preferences. Then you will see a Password selection under the Options menu.
Q: I forgot my password and now can't delete things, plus
it won't let me turn Password Protection off!
A: If someone chose to password protect their database,
obviously such protection can not be turned off without the password. Your User's
Guide describes how to determine your password. If you don't have a User's Guide,
contact Sight In Systems.
Q: The system won't let me use the Sight In target function
when I have an active cartridge.
A: If you want to utilize the Sight In feature, you obviously
want to change your rifle's basic sight in in the database. You must make the Active
Cartridge part of your Rifle definition by Applying Active. Then you can Sight In.
Q: The trajectory tables from my cartridge manufacturer
don't have the same numbers as shown by On Target. Who's correct?
A: If you ensure that the scope height, atmospheric conditions
and zero range are the same, your results will compare well (<0.7% difference) until
the velocity reduces to the point where the G1 model used by the manufacturer is no longer
close enough. Also make sure you understand the precision used in their data since
some will round to the nearest 10f/s, etc.
Q: Every time I enter a chrono value, it is displayed as a
different number.
A: On Target will calculate the actual muzzle velocity, not
the velocity at the chrono which you entered, based on the distance to chrono selected in
Preferences. Use "0" as this distance, and the entry will equal the
displayed value.
Q: When I asked for scope adjustments for a maximum error
of 4 inches, it gave me a result with 4.2 inches of error.
A: When you define the basic sight in of the rifle, On
Target will calculate the angle between LOS and the bore with an angular precision of 1/16
MOA. When calculating scope adjustments, the actual resolution of your scope
(MARKSMAN Edition) or 1/4 MOA (STANDARD Edition) is used. Set your scope clicks for
plus and minus one click around the recommended adjustment, and you will see that the
error is greater than the 0.2 inches. If two answers are the same, remember the
display is to a precision of 0.1" (rounded vs. truncated). Internally, On
Target uses much higher precision.
Q: When I try to generate a Click/Hold Over Table, On
Target crashes with a message "Illegal Procedure Call".
A: In order to generate a Click/ Hold Over Table, you must
have Use Clicks selected in Preferences. This has been corrected in
Version 3.1
(will not allow selection of Click/Hold Over Table with Use MOA selected).
